Isililo SikaNandi

Following her passing, an extraordinary period of mourning known as Isililo SikaNandi was declared across the kingdom — a testament to the depth of her influence and the reverence in which she was held.

"Women are about far more than merely giving birth and raising children." — INkosazane Nandi

The Sun, the Lion (Ndau) and Fire stand as enduring symbols of abaseLangeni — representing radiance, courage and the sacred flame that binds the people to their royal lineage.

Fire

Fire is honoured as the sacred royal element, connected to eMsamo — the spiritual resting place of ancestors within the homestead — anchoring ceremony and remembrance.

Legacy

Governance, Counsel & Resilience

Beyond her role as mother and commander, INkosazane Nandi was a figure of counsel within the royal court — respected for her judgement in matters affecting the wellbeing of her people. Her resilience through periods of political upheaval and her steady guidance during times of transition reflect a leadership style rooted in wisdom rather than force alone. This spirit of considered governance and quiet strength continues to inform how the Foundation approaches its own work today: with patience, dignity, and a commitment to the long-term wellbeing of the community she once served.

"She who carries the fire of the Sun in her eyes, burns eternal."
